Breast augmentation continues to be the most common cosmetic surgery performed in the United States. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), roughly 296,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2010. This was a slight increase from the previous year, but a substantial increase (39%) when compared to numbers from 2000.

Different Incision Sites
The ideal candidate for a breast augmentation procedure tends to have most of the following characteristics: good overall health, relatively symmetric breasts, good skin quality, and no more than a minimal amount of droopiness.

Implant in Subpectoral Pocket
The three most commonly used approaches are the areolar, inframammary, and transaxillary. Most surgeons elect to place the implants partially under the pectoralis muscle. Of the women who underwent breast augmentation, roughly 40% chose saline implants, while 60% selected silicone gel implants according to ASPS stats.
In order to better inform patients about breast augmentation, last year we created a special website (SiouxCityBreastAugmentaion.com) which is devoted to this procedure. The site is a useful source of information containing specifics about the procedure including complications and the recovery period. In additions, there numerous photos showing results from patients who have undergone breast augmentation with a variety of approaches and implants types.
